A truck, a tractor and a country mile
Off roading anyone? How about a little tractor pull? After marrying a local farmer, birthing 3 ‘junior farmers” and finding myself completely submerged in the world of trucks, tractors and heavy equipment, this cake order gave me a great opportunity to try my hand, at all the things that rev the motors of 19 year old country kids. There isn’t a young man for a country mile that doesn’t dream of driving around in his own pick up one day. Country music cranked, windows rolled down, and a cloud of country road dust, in his wake. And so I tackled this cake from the inside out making two delicious dark chocolate and vanilla marble-swirl cakes stacked one on top of the other. I transferred the marble swirl to the fondant by twisting some vanilla and chocolate fondant together to achieve the “road”. I then built the truck and tractor 3-dimensionally by layering the moulded fondant until I had the look I wanted. Little details like the GMC logo on the truck and the X-500 on the John Deere made the cake really personal. Since the gentleman was turning 19, the legal drinking age in Canada, I finished it off with a little nod to a jug of suds. Cheers everyone and Happy 19th Birthday Rob!
