Sweet anticipation

I volunteered to make this cake for a pre-baby shower that was held for my son`s coach and his wife.  They were expecting their first child … a gorgeous, gushing, pink, baby girl.  Wrapping the sweet pea in the beautiful fresh new leaves of the pea pod seemed natural as the baby took shape with the pink blanket and tiny flower for her head. I already had some peas made so all I had to do was wrap them in pods and make some tendrils.  I quickly cut out some baby clothes and put them around the sides and piped on the little words.

Sometimes the hardest thing about a cake is coming up with the design, especially if you like it to be original and personal. I loved how this design ended up captured the sweet tenderness of a new born baby and how they grow into something wonderful, just like the tiny seeds that I’d planted in my garden grew into sweet, tender and delicious peas.
